I work in a big chain supermarket, and had to jump into Deli and help serve, cos they were getting smashed. I've only served deli a few times, and was still relatively new to entering items into the scales that printed tickets.

A lady asked for a kilo of Wings, and 40 of our Chicken Skewers. I ring the skewers up, $2.80, print the ticket and go to wrap. "UM!!! EXCUSE ME!!!!" Full Karen mode. "The ticket says $2.50 each!!!! That says $2.80!!!! This means I get it for free right?!?!?!"

I go look at the ticket, it's $2.80... so I say "Sorry, no, it's definitely $2.80". But, I notice I'd screwed up. Items charged by "each" need a quantity too, otherwise the system thinks you just have one. I smile a sickly sweet smile "No, it's definitely $2.80... but good thing you pointed that out, I accidentally only charged you for only one instead of 40. Let me just ring that up again".

The look on her face was priceless, as the new total appeared on the screen. In trying to save 30c, she herself out of over $100.

egotistical_83 I love this for her. 15 hr. ago 226 Reply Share Jamaqius 15 hr. ago Where do you work? If you don't question giving away 40 chicken skewers for $2.80 then I want to shop there.

-train-of-thought- OP - 18 hr. ago It was just a case of I saw it, but didn't fully click, as there were so many people in line, I was just trying to churn through. Reply Share 104 a_left_out_tomato. 32 min. ago I worked in a grocery store deli for 9 months, it's a decently common mistake. It's caught most of the time but unfortunately not always. I know how it feels when there's 17 people in front of you and the rotisserie chickens just rang that they're done. Pure stress.

I needed Mace in particular. When the cashier rang it through, the screen read Majorim which is one of the cheaper spices, cost wise. So it was like $2.50. I quietly corrected her that it was, in fact Mace which is horriblly expensive. The cashier was shocked I spoke up lol. Ran it through again and it was

frecklearms1991 - 12 hr. ago I do something like that where if someone at a store/restaurant/etc screws up I'll tell them that I should get that for free. But I give them a smile. They always laugh at me and reply "yeah right !!!!" LOL

Cilad. 4 hr. ago This reminds me of a professor in college. He had graduate students grade his tests. If you questioned or challenged an answer he would "re- grade" the test. And low and behold you ended up with a worse grade.

Nighteyes09 12 hr. ago I'll note that they don't have to give it to you for free here. The code just forces them to give it to you at the lower price. The free thing is just good marketing.

RiehlDeal 18 hr. ago It's a thing in certain stores in Canada. If it scans as a different price then listed on the shelf you get the item free and if you were buying multiple the remaining ones are at the price listed. I've had it at Safeway, noticed the scan was wrong and they explained it to me so I got my milk free. It's called the scanner price accuracy code.

Sea_Tax_6051 15 hr. ago In Canada this is a thing. If the wrong price comes up and its more they give it to you for free up to $10. I love it. 43 ↓ Reply Share Usual-Canc-60243 hr. ago Only at participating stores. It's voluntary participation, not the law as some think.
